    NEED OPINIONS:

I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PICK UP A COLT COMP HBAR MATCH TARGET AT WHAT I THINK IS A GOOD PRICE. GUN IS LNIB AND HAS THE 20" HEAVY BARREL AND THE REMOVABLE CARRY HANDLE. PRICE = $750.00. GUN IS A POST BAN. HOW DO THEY SHOOT AND IS THAT A GOOD PRICE? WHAT KIND OF GROUPS WILL IT SHOOT AT 100 YARDS? WITH A GOOD SCOPE. THANKS.

NO, I'M NOT EXPRESSING ANGER! I TYPE WITH CAPS BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE THE USE OF ONE HAND!

    Sorry, that does not compute.

Colt has not made AR-15's since 1985, except for Law Enforcement models. I don't know what "gov't profile" means.

If what you want is a Colt, take a look at the 2011 catalog on the Colt website, & see if there is a current Sporter or Heavy Barrel model that meets your requirements.

    Neal,

Gov't profile barrels are identical to the military M16. They are tapered under the handguards and have 1-7" twist. I remember seeing one a few years ago but I don't remember the model number or if was a parts build.

I have checked the 2011 catalog and they do not list a 20" barrel other than the HBAR and none with 1-7"twist other than the short M4 carbine.

My Colt sporter has that barrel.
If you can find a sporter upper, that's what you need.

I'm looking for a Colt AR15 with 20" gov't profile 1-7"twist barrel in either A2 or A4 version. Does anyone know if that combo exists or where to find it?

Well, that's why I asked. But, Colt used the same barrels on their military contract M16's as they did on their AR civilian models. And, the current Colt military "Government" model is an M4 carbine.

You want a Model R6500 AR-15A2 or Model R6550 AR-15A2 Government or a bunch of others that were once made & are out there on the used market. You may want to get a copy of The AR-15 Complete Owner's Guide by Walt Kuleck to help you in your search. You should be able to find something on the GB auctions if you are patient.

    DCS,

Thanks for those auctions. I've been watching them and been asking lots of questions. I guess I've learned something from you guys here and that is to be fully aware of what you're buying by asking lots of questions and getting lots of pics.

Last question, is the screw type takedown pin on the early rifles and indication of having a large pin? I have asked several sellers and not on has a definite answer.

That sounds just like my Colt Sporter Target. If you take off the hand guard, it has a different profile than, let's say, a heavy barrel. Also, it does has a 1/7 twist, unlike the Comp H-Bar, which has a 1/9 twist.

Anyway, here's an example of one, for sale, here. It's not mine but, it looks nice, from what I can tell.
