Value for Commemorative Gun?
I would appreciate knowing the current value of the following gun. It was purchased from the American Historical Foundation in 1986 and has never been handled or fired. In fact, it has never been out of its original wood and glass presentation case. Beyond mint condition.
Commemorative M1911al.45 - Used in the Europe and Pacific theaters (China, Burma, India). 24k gold on handle, safety, trigger, etc., with UD stamp on the handle.

yep, rule of thumb on commeratives is that they are usually not worth any more than the standard grade of the same gun. 0 -

Knowing the "value" of a gun does not mean that you can actually buy one at that price. Someone has to offer it for sale.
In the case of AHF commemoratives, many models are offered on GB auctions, but rarely, if ever, are they sold. That is usually because the current owner sets a starting price far above the actual "value", & the gun doesn't sell; they'd rather keep it in the safe before selling it for less than they paid.
I'm not familiar with this particular issue, but it would be helpful if the OP told us what make gun it is. In any case, we really can't estimate the value, as he has never removed it from the case, & there is a good possibility that this has resulted in corrosion on the side touching the case lining due to use of acid containing materials.

At this time...it does not appear that almost any gun today has much in the way of "VALUE"...At least 90% of the guns on Gun Broker are not even getting bids! Even the ones with no reserve and low minimums are not getting much action. We are in the same boat as the Housing Market. Even Collector Cars are not seeing much action.It's the sign of the times...It is truly a BUYERS market!!!! 0 -
I've done quit well over the last month or so, moved several pieces.
Four years ago I did an estate sale for a friend, there where two WW1 comereative gold enhanced 1911s in thier cases, just like you describe. I sold them for $600 each.

I opologize , I was unaware Rock Island made commemorative 1911s.
In my experience the only ones I have seen were made by Colt such as this one I own.

Not all of AHF's commemorative 1911A1's were made by Colt. For example, their D-Day Commemorative 1911A1 was made by Auto Ordnance.
We need more information, preferably pictures.0
