Need help with two guns!
First my grandpa has a remington 742 Woodmaster. Barrel code is A149 and serial number is A71560** He wanted to know when it was manufactured. I tried to decifer the date codes from the remington website on the other thread but i aint clicking, so if any one care to help that would be fantastic.
Second, my dad was a Springfield Model 18C bolt action 410. It also has savage on it. So did springfield or savage make it. Also have not found a serial number on it as of now so dont know where to begin to figure out how old it is. Any help would again be great, thanks.

You have the wrong barrel code. There is a two or three letter one needed.
The shotgun was made by Savage. Before 1968 no serial number was needed.0 -

Edited to save room: Savage was at one time the largest gun maker in the world. They acquired the J Stevens Arms and Tools Company, and the Springfield company. Thus giving birth to the 3 S's- Savage/ Stevens/ Springfield. Models seems to drift back and forth across all 3 names.0 -
