Rem 31 bbl bushings
I have several new, still with the factory grease on them, Remington model 31 12 ga. barrel bushings. I have found numbers stamped on the inside of the bushing. Can you tell me what the difference is between those stamped 4 or 6?

Not sure what you mean by "barrel bushing". Can you elaborate? I only have one 31 (a 16 ga.). The 31 was discontinued around 1950 but I'm sure there are some schematics as well as 31 fans out there. 0 -
VERY SIMILAR TO THE WIN. M-12 BARREL BUSHINGS, THE HIGHER THE NUMBER THE 'HEAVEIER' THE 'DRAW' (WINCHESTER'S TERMINOLOGY, NOT MINE). THEY ARE USED TO MAKE THE GUN 'TIGHT' AGAIN AFTER BEING TAKEN APART SO MANY TIME THEY HAVE A 'WIGGLE' AT THE JOINT. THEY DIDN'T NESESSARILY COME WITH A "#1" FROM THE FACTORY BUT IF YOUR GUN HAD THE WIGGLES YOU NEEDED TO PUT IN A 'HEAVIER' BUSHING TO TIGHTEN IT UP. 0 -
Thank you so very, very much for this information. We knew it was to tighten the barrel but did not know about the numbers. They seemed to mic the same and looked just a like. Guess my mic is old like me and did not detect the difference. I really appreciate the EXPERTS help. 0 -
The difference is in the location of the 'outside' threads (fore & aft), all other dimenstions are the same. 0
