is there a rating for best to worst catagory for over/under shotguns?
i am looking at browning, beretta, ceasar gurini (sp), b. rizzini, etc shotguns in the $6-4k range.

Unless you plan to have the stock custom fit, (and at that price you may be) I'd choose the one that fit the best or whispered the sweetest nothings in my ear when I picked it up. 0 -
Depends on what you plan to use it for.
Each shotgun (even the same model by the same maker) will feel different. You will have to find one that fits, feels, and points the best for you.
For the value, I like Brownings, but in my experience Brownings tend to be heavier (but they will last forever) so for a field gun where I have to do a lot of walking, I usually defer to something else.
In your price range, you have a lot of options and you may be able to have one fit for you.

While 28ga is my favorite guage for birds up to pheasant, for sporting clays, I would definately recommend at least a 20ga. You may want to consider an all ga with 20, 28, and 410 gauges. These are typically on a smaller frame that an 12 ga and would give you the versatility without handicapping you. I believe you could find one in your price range. Browning, Winchester, and SKB among others made them on small and large frames.

+1 on 55's comments. All listed are great guns and within those groups there are good, better, best, but that depends on the use intended.
Some are Cast-off stocks with alot of adjustments for fit built into the design, some are made with different type breech locks that would be important if using hvy. mag loads.
Like cars, a Vette may be a great car, but if your looking to haul 4 kids it wouldn't be a good choice.

Based on below information I would look at the Beretta 682 Gold E. Quite a few adjustments to fit you without big expense, great shooting, cast off stock. Other are good also, but these are really made for games.0 -

Doesn't Field and Stream run a best 25,50 of all types of guns.

If you are just starting out with clays, you may want to reconsider the 28 ga. The vast majority of clay shooter use a 12 or a 20. 0 -
Yes definitely stick to a 12 or 20 ga. Shells for the other gauges are very expensive unless you reload. 0
