Another Odd BT-99 Serial Number
This one doesn't match the what's on the Browning site. I'm going to call them, but can anyone tell year from this serial number:

I believe the first two digits should be reversed and it actually dates to 1973.
In the time frame approximately 1965-1975 there was a lot of weird stuff going on with serialization issues with the Belgian made Brownings. Years ago I had a Challenger .22 pistol made in 1969 with the same problem, the serial number was reversed with the date and model first then the actual serial number.0 -
In an odd sort of way, reversing the numbers make sense. This one is stamped made in Japan, if that helps to date it to. The next thing I have to figure out is what choke tubes I can use in it. It has an improved modified right now. If it's 73, then this would not be an invector barrel. 0 -

I always though this was the basic cause of the problems during that time frame, i.e. 65/75. The U.S. Browning company was transitioning production from Belgium to Japan. They also shipped all the walnut stock wood contaminated with salt to Belgium during this period. It was always doubtful to me that the folks working for FN in Belgium were very happy about any of this.0 -
When hand stamping alot of metal each day it's easy to make a mistake. I can not tell you the number of times early in the morning I have stamped something backwards. When you hold the stamp up and look at the ends, they are opposite when stamped on the metal. I guess I need more coffee to jump start my brain. 0 -
I'm pretty sure that all the bt-99's were made in Japan. 0
