to old to remember other than brass rod and hammer or sight removal tool...
??? does the rear sight get removed from the left to right or vice versa looking from hammer to muzzle any help will be appreciated

Newbie to 1911's needs advice. I'm looking at GB NO. 228252112, for a colt commander model O. Is this particular gun worth the asking price? I will shoot it some, and carry it some. I definately want a Colt, prefer stainless, and I would also like to make a decent investment. I'd like to keep my cost to $1,000. If you have lots of time on your hands, any other 1911's on the auction side you might suggest would be appreciated. Keep in mind that I am a FFL holder, so I can buy whsle., if I new what to buy. Thanks in advance

If you're cool with the 1991 (kind a like the series 80) buy it. I don't know what "model O" is though. As an investment [?]? Also if you can buy "whole sale" then I'd buy one whole sale or wait for one you like to walk in to your door dift cheap. 0 -
Hawk, you're going to have to do your homework, like everyone else. There's wholesale, & then
there's wholesale; everyone with an FFL does not pay the same price. The price asked seems fair to me, but those of us who will have to pay a local dealer to accept it may find it's cheaper to order locally; this IS a current production model.
This is a Colt Commercial gun, not a 1911. Colt calls it their "1991/series 80" line. The frame designation is "Model O". It's not a "modern" design with a double stack mag or striker fired, but some of us think it is a classic design; it's hard to go wrong with any Colt, if you are looking at long term value.

Price: Bud's last price on that model was $840, with none now in stock. I don't think $855 + $35 is bad for one actually available to buy.
Model: This is a Combat Commander with 4 1/4" barrel, not a full size Government Model ("1911"). Some people prefer them, some don't. I like the feel of the shorter gun but can shoot the full size pistol more accurately.0 -
I have no use for a Series 80 gun, but I was seeking a Commander for a carry gun. It took a while, and I had to be patient, but I found a lightweight .45 Commander, made in 1976, for $700, here on Gunbroker. 0 -
I grew up using a Combat Commander and it happened to be my first CCW gun. The current version has a few plastic parts - trigger and MSH IIRC - and a poorly fitted grip safety, a trigger activated firing pin block. I don't particularly like any of those features and on the "smaller" version Defender I've bought changed them out. Colt has the name and that's a great advantage, I just wish they paid attention to these little odds & ends. There are too many other 1911 manufacturers (Dan Wesson, for example) that do an excellent job on their 4" model guns. 0
