Mosin Nagant Dragoon
i bought my 91/31 years ago and never really thought anything else about it. I decided to research it and the markings. Apparently i picked up a Dragoon rifle from 1925 with a hex receiver. It has been rearsenalled or at least has the stock stamp indicating that. It has not been counterbored. Is a dragoon rifle anything special or just a run of the mill mosin nagant?

A dragoon is a special and hard to find variation of Mosin-Nagant rifles. Basically, the dragoon is like a M91/30 except that it has the old style curved rear sight and a front sight without a hood as on the M91's. I've looked for one of these locally without luck for years. They can be found on large web auctions but are seldom seen for sale elsewhere. Congratulations on your find. 0 -
Classic Arms in NC had a bunch of these for sale last year.
If you really want one, give them a call; they might have one or two left squirreled away somewhere.
As an oddity for collectors, they're a little interesting. As a "shooter", they're no different than any other gun.0 -
I ordered 4 from RGUNS about a month ago,when they came in 3 of the 4 were Dragoons 0 -
yeah I actually bought it on this site, turn out the guy selling it was from my area. Only paid $97 for it. Its in great shape to. Its the top gun obviously

When I refer to a Dragoon, I mean a rifle like the M91/30 except that the Dragoon has a curved old style rear sight and M91 style front sight. The ones I have seen for sale have all had flat rear sights and hooded front sights. 0 -
Thats the thing my gun has a hooded front sight and a flat rear sight. However, the markings on the reciever match identicle to a dragoon. So I guess when it was reworked at the armory it was a dragoon reciever married to a standard barrel and sights. Oh, well still have a beautiful great shooting rifle. 0
