winchester 1886 40-82 ?????
Bert or any other winchester experts,,,I picked up a 5 digit ser # 1886 rifle in 40-82 and 28" octagon barrel,,, my question is what kind of premium does the barrel length add to it's value ? Both Madl and madis reference the rarity although conflicting numbers as to how many were actually ordered this way,,,will it letter ? any thoughts appreciated.

Hello Jim,
Use John Madl's rarity numbers... he and John Hawk have spent many years surveying the actual Model 1886 warehouse ledger records.
Without the benefit of actually seeing the rifle, I can not say if it will actually letter properly or not.
In regards to the premium for the 28-inch barrel length, it will be relatively small. In regards to the Model 1886, the longer the barrel is, the bigger the premium will be. Barrel lengths greater than 30-inches bring big bucks.0 -
Thanks Bert,,, I will send some pics to your email tomorrow sometime.
