ODD markings on vz 24
I picked this beauty up for $50 plus trade at a pawn shop and the markings are in different locations than others that I have seen before.
the armory name is in an arch over Brno where you would normally see an obliterated crest, there is no vz24 id mark, and there is a mark that looks like an E followed by the lion mark followed by 35 that has been covered up by a checkerboard pattern stamp on the side of the chamber just above the serial number.
Can anyone help me? Also how do you attach pictures?

There are many variations of the Czech 98 Mausers, made between the wars. Get hold of a copy of "Mauser Military Rifles of the World" by Ball, for excellent information plus photos of them.
EDIT #1, your photos aren't visible0 -
Thank you I will do that. 0 -
Sounds like an warly 24 to me. They made sequentially the VZ22 and VZ23 in small numbers towardd the eventual issue VZ24. The 23 I believe had the arched crest over the BRNO marking. I have seen a few over the years...not common at all. The rest of the markings I cannot much comment on, although it is possible that it is of foreign issue, made in Chechoslovakia. 0 -
44thguardsreenactor,
Post pictures and we can go from there. Until then, there are several variations of the BRNO stampings, here are a couple:

Got your photos off the Imageshack site. Unfortunately the quality is poor. Hard to tell what the markings are?

in the top photo the is an E followed by a lion followed by a 35. The E and lion have been obliterated by a checker patter stamp. on the top of the receiver there is CS. ZAVODY NA VYROBU ZBRANT in an double lined arch over Brno. does this help? 0
