Fed 209 primers
I have about 500 Fed 209 primers and I don't see them used in any of the modern books today. I think the 209A is a hotter primer. I normally use only Win 209's.
Does anyone know if I can substitute these Fed 209's for the Win 209's?
I use Red Dot powder, WT12 wads, and 1 1/8oz shot

In all my reload books from the 70's, 80's and 90's, Fed 209's give slightly higher chamber pressures (3 to 5%) than Win 209's with same velocity. If you are shooting max loads of RedDot with Win 209's, don't sub for Fed primers. 0 -
I would use them, shotshell primers are all about the same and pressures are low (you can set off red dot with a flash bulb). 0 -
You can usually use them but you will need to back off the powder gharge from 1/2 to a full grain. Federal 209 and Alcan 220 maxfire primers are that much hotter. Stay away from them in the smaller gauges. 0 -
My red dot load is a 1200 fps load, not a max charge. 0
