Scope suggestionss
Hi, time for a scope as the eyes start to go silly in the 50's. Looking to scope a Marlin 922 .22 magnum semi-auto. Was never a scope guy but I thinks it sure is the time now. Any thoughts appreciated!

Most any old scope should work more or less. 22lr &mag aren't long range rounds and personally I don't shoot them for much more then 100yds or less. Also they have little recoil, which is what generally kills scopes. So all you really need is a scope that has ok glass and stays where you set it; it is not likely that you will be adjusting it for wind and such. I shoot a late model 3x9x40 Bushnell Banner on my custom converted 17HMR Ruger 77/22 and it does just fine for less then $100. If I wanted to upgrade I'd be looking at something in the Burris line of scopes. As you are scoping a Marlin 922 you might need a more compact scope then the Banner. If that is the case I'd look at the Burris Timberline compact small bell scopes. Good luck.... 0 -
The Burris Timberline 4X is a good choice. Nice & clear and compact, forgiving eye relief. I have one one a Ruger Deerfield, it's a nice little scope that will fit well on the little 22. 0 -
I have a Leupold 2x-7x .22 scope on my 10-22 and love it. Very clear optics, 1" tube, but smaller bells than my Vari-X. 0 -
Check the Nikon shotgun scope offerings - their parallax is set to be more realistic for 22 or shotgun loads (50 or 75 yards IIRC vs. 100 for most rifle scopes). Or get an AO scope - I have 2 different models from simmons and like 'em both. 0 -
How cheap/expensive do you want to go here?
At the earlier suggestion of a poster, I stuck a fixed 4x Simmons "22 mag" scope on one of my .22s. Its no Nikon or Leupold, but for $30 its not bad and has held up just fine.0 -
There are lots of ways to go. You could go conventional 4x as mentioned. Measure the rail width to be certain of mounting sizing.
If you want to try something different there are red and green dot scopes with no magnification but real easy to shoot even with both eyes open. Also the newer dot reflex sights like the military is now using will fit. Also easy with two eyes and no magnification.
For .22 there is a wide range. If your not killing with it. Have some fun with all the choices available.0 -
I like the leupold 4x, I have had several for a long time, and I really like them..
Tasco makes a 3-9x rimfire scope its a good scope for the 30 or 40 dollars it costs. Burris offers 3-9 and 4-12x models that are good quality.0 -
