ATTN-Stock Refinishers
This is a FYI---If you are like me(in refinishing gun stocks), over time you have probably thrown away more finish than you put on the stock. A 1/2 empty can of varnish, Tru-Oil, etc, usually scums over between uses, and becomes unuseable. I am just starting to use a product called "BLOXYGEN". It comes in a pressureized can like spray paint. It is a pressurized gas(Argon), that when sprayed into the can, displaces the air in the can, because Argon is heavier than air. Put the argon in the can, and put the lid back on. I have been using it for a few months now. Seems to work fine. I've used it on spar varnish, Tru-Oil, linseed, and Tung oil. Thank you, I'm going to give that a try. Seems like stock work comes in herds, don't have any for quit a while then you have a bunch. Always end up buying a new container of whatever I'm going to use because the the partial can is bad.

Another method to keep the air out is to add ball bearings or marbles to keep the level to the top....

or just turn the jar/can upside down for storage 0 -
I've always placed it in a plastic squeeze bottle and just squeezed the air out of it when I'm finished using it.........

No I feel particularly thick headed or slow witted behind all of the liquids that I have had to deep six, after the fact! This ought to save some in the future! [:(]
1.) Regarding the ballbearings/marbles how does one recycle to re-use? [?]
2.) If the liquid is affected by the air in the container, rather than a loose lid or cap or top; how does turning the container upsidedown help with anything? [?] [:(]0 -
I bought a 16 oz. can of tru oil at a yard sale .
It was unopened .
I have been using out of it for 5 years with no problem .
Here is the secret ---Marbles !
Everytime I use it ,I put in enough marbles to fill the can .
Cost $1 at the dollar store for a bag ful .
Works on tung oil and other finishes also .0 -

Since I started this, I'll chime in one more time. The marble idea will work, because the additional volume of the marbles displaces the air/oxygen from the can. What kind of a mess/clean-up do you have when the can is empty? Secondly, Please explain to me how inverting the can, will displace the O-2????? It is the O-2 that causes the curing of the finish in the can!!!!! Not the possibility that the lid may leak over time, allowing the solvents to escape. THX HAWKSHAW 0 -

You also lose some of the driers this way .
That's why I use the marbles .
When can is finished ,I put the marbles in with some mineral spirits and clean them .0
