M-1 carbine...forend barrel band retainer is a dead give away. Check out the book "War Baby" and you will know all. Missing the top fore wood, and the "R1A" is actually, I think (although I was not aware that Rock Island made stocks?) it's RIA, or Rock Island Arsenal, and then the LB? Likely the inspector at the facility where it was arsenaled.

Figured you'ld be coming around on this one Neal! Neal will/has given you the straight poop on this; really knows his stuff!

    It's "RIA/EB" - Rock Island Arsenal/Elmer Bjerke.

RIA didn't make carbine stocks, but they rebuilt many carbines & this stamp is considered a "rebuild stamp", not a "cartouche".

Appears to be a birch stock, based on the uneven ugly way it absorbed stain. Probably off of a Korean import.

I see what looks like an "IO" in the well where the oiler would go by the butt.

This would mean, "Inland / Overton" as in Inland was the primary contractor and Overton was the subcontractor that actually made the stock.

    Good luck.
