What is the difference between a NOVAK or a BOMAR style sights?

  How do you change the front sight on a MKIV Series 70 with fixed sights? Are they pressed in place? This one shoots low. Thanks.

  They are swaged on the bottom. Look inside the slide and you can see it. You can get a higher rear or lower front sight.
  It's easyer to change the rear.

  The front sight is staked in place.
  Installation calls for positioning the tenon of the sight through the hole in the slide, supporting it solidly, and staking it out with a punch shaped to work from the inside.
  Removal is usually done by grinding down the staked area and driving out the tenon with a punch or pulling it off with pliers, being careful not to scrape up the slide.
  
  If the gun is shooting low you need either a lower front sight - and there isn't much there to work with on a fixed sight pistol - or a taller rear.

  I would find other solutions to your problem; i.e., different ammo, Kentucky windage.
  
  Once you change the sights, the resale value of your gun takes a big hit. And, you can't go back, because Colt stocks parts only for current production guns, & sights for older models are extremely difficult to find. [:I]

  Answer has been given.
  
  Your front sight is staked (ie riveted) into place. The way to get it out is to take off the slide, turn it over, and then a. grind away some of the peened metal from the bottom of the sight, then b. either grab it with a pliers and pull it straight out, or punch it out from the bottom with a punch.
  
  You have to be VERY careful when you do this because its easy to damage the guns finish, or damage the slot the staked sight sits in.
  
  As mentioned, unless you want a totally different type of front sight, I'd look into other options first.

  Brownell's and other parts houses offer a variety of replacement sights. As has been mentioned, it is MUCH easier to change out the rear sight and you could go with one of the low profile adjustable sights to address the elevation question.

  Thanks guys. I'll either change the rear sight or probably go with Kentucky windage as not to alter the gun.
