Case trimmer

I asked this question is the reloading forum. I bought a used Hornady/Pacific trimmer.
I used it for the first time yesterday and I noticed a .002"-.003" difference in length from one side of the case to other.
I put a dial indicator on shaft and rotated, .012" runout. Is this trimmer junk of is that exceptable tolerence?

  I get about the same with my Lyman and Lee stuff.
  
  Depends too what your use is. Remember, we're talking about a difference roughly 1/2 the thickness of a human hair. The trimmer in question is going to allow the case some wiggle due to the pilot not fitting the neck perfectly.
  
  For most hunting and target shooting from non bench rest guns, I don't think that's a problem.

  Length? Are you measuring diameter run out or OAL? My suspicion is that "unacceptable" is a good answer, but that may not mean your tool is junk. Could be a matter of set-up and or operation. Unless it's been abused a good Hornady/Pacific trimmer should outlive us both.
