Rem model 700 changes

What are differences are there between the older and the newer triggers and safeties?

How might I learn more about them? I'm not concerned about any cosmetics changes.

    Hi Alan,

    Basically the new X-Mark trigger, is Remington's attempt to make an externally adjustable(external=with the stock on the rifle) trigger for weight of pull. To try to say they have the same as the Savage Accu-Trigger. The sear engagement, and over travel are sealed with epoxy, which can be removed with some heat. On my Sendero SF-II action, I removed the trigger, and replaced it with a Jewell. A regular older 700 trigger will work too, as will the 40-X trigger.

    From my notes from 2007:

    The overtravel screw and it's threaded housing are an integral part of the safety and the whole unit moves back to block the trigger when the safety is engaged.

    The connector has been discontinued in the X-Mark version.

    The weight of pull is externally user adjustable without taking the barreled action out of the stock. However, it's still a violation of the warranty for any adjusting to be done by the average owner. Adjustments must be made by a certified repair station.

    Acetone or other liquid solvents will not remove the 'Seal of Remington' on the adjustment screws. It takes heat, a small propane torch is what we use. Use a tap to clean out the gunk remaining in the threads.

    The best change in these triggers is the fit and finish of the mating parts. All of the contact surfaces are polished and smooth, making for a much better trigger right from the start. This is written about thoroughly by Remington on their website and in their news releases.

    Thanks to both of you for your help. I'd heard some folks go on about the newer, and did not understand the complaints and potential problems. What I'd read did no detail or expanation. This ought sink through my skull any day now in conjuntion what I pull up while surfing the question. Thanks much gentlemen, appreciated. [^]
