winchester 1897 forend

I have a late model 97, year 1953 that has a flat bottom forearm on it with 14 grooves on each side. Looks very original to the gun. Did they start putting these on instead of the round forearms on the latter 97's?

  Winchester changed the slide handle shape in 1952 (based on what I have observed).

  Thanks for the info. I did't think my slide handle had been replaced even though I haven't seen another 97 with a flat bottom.

  After about 1952, replacment forends bought from Winchester were all the new style. I have an older gun that has the new style replacement forend.
