winchester model 62
can anyone give me DOM and maybe a close value on this little rifle.Model 62 winchester pump 22 S L or LR. serial # 19528x. 22 1/2" barrel in about 85 % condition overall. has very good bluing left but very light surface rust and a couple of brighter spots on the barrel above the rear sight like it had been hanging in a rack for a long time.The wood is in at least 90% with good grain and very few dings.the only two things I can see not original is the screw on the right side of the forearm has been replaced and the plunger that slides into the mag tube is not original

Sounds like a late production Model 90 with a Model 62 barrel on it. The 1906's only ran out to about 696,000 but the 1890's go out to about 855,000. Bert may be along later to straighten us both out 0 -

The partial serial number tells me that it is a late production (1938) Model 90 receiver frame. Winchester used some Model 62 barrels on late production Model 90 parts clean-up rifles. Production of the Model 1906 ended at serial number 685999. There were some parts clean-up 06 rifles made using Model 90 receiver frames. What type of butt plate is on your rifle? 0 -
the butt plate is hard plastic w/ winchester logo in center.also has some kind of checkering and is curved in shape. found some interesting info on proofhouse.com. it says that after 1932, serial #s were chosen at random with many #s being skipped. highest ser.# recorded for model 1890 was 849,100.. for the 06, ser.#s reached 848,000.. any thoughts on this will be appreciated.. 0 -

Serial numbers were not ever chosen at random, nor were any serial numbers ever skipped. As I mentioned in my first post, production of the Model 06 ended at serial number 685999 (on March 10th, 1926). As of March 10th, 1926, the Model 1890 receiver serial numbers had reached 713199, and it was at serial number 713200 that the "A" style marking was dropped from the serial number.
In the period of time between March 11th, 1926 through late 1949, several thousand Model 1906 parts clean-up rifles were assembled using Model 90 receivers. The earliest possible serial number on a Model 06 parts clean-up rifle made after regular production was halted at serial number 685999 is serial number 713200 (which could lead some people to mistakenly believe that some serial numbers were skipped).
Normal (regular) production of the Model 90 ended on June 6th, 1932 at serial number 846022. Sporadic production (parts clean-up) continued through November 23rd, 1949, when the final Model 90 receiver frame was serialized with number 854747. So, and what that means in layman's terms, is that Model 06 parts clean-up rifles can be found with serial numbers in the 713200 - 854747 range, and Model 90 parts clean-up rifles can be found in the 846023 - 854747 serial number range.
The key to identifying exactly what you have is to first check the barrel marking for the Model designation. For those rifles that were assembled using a Model 62 barrel, the primary identifying feature is what type of butt stock & butt plate it has. Your rifle has the Model 06 style butt stock & butt plate, therefore that is what it is.
