Can you load 45 Schofield brass in 45 Colt dies? Thanks.

Shorter cases won't reach the crimp shoulder of the seating die.

You can load 45 Colt in 45 Schofield, but not the other way.

They used to make separate die sets for 38 Special and 357 and also for 44 Special and Magnum, but these days, they make them in Special length and simply label them both ways.

As a further aside, when I made up a 41 Special revolver, I took the RCBS 41 Magnum seater die to a machine shop and had them grind a short length off the bottom and re-radius the inner edge. My shorter Special cases now reach the crimp shoulder just fine.

Rocky Raab has the correct fix. take some off the mouth of the seating die but don't leave the edge sharp. you may be able to DIY with file and dremel tool

    Yup.
I cut back a .44 Magnum seating die enough for it to crimp .44 Special. Then cut it off some more when I got a .44 Russian.
It might be cheaper just to buy another seating die if you don't have the tools to do a neat cut... or a friend who has them.

Unless you have no other die, why would you want a taper crimp on a revolver round?

If you want. don't have to,
The schofield works fine in either.

I see Lee has a set of dies for the Schofield, I'll probably pick up a set of those later on. Thanks everybody.

+1. I use a 7/8" washer that I ground to the proper thickness and I place it between the lock ring and theropod the press. Ido the same thing for 40S&W to 10mm.loads
