Remington Derringer

Hi again, I need some help on idenity of some derringers. I have an engraved Remington derringer, with pearl grips. It does have a number on bottom of barrel (798). I also have one that is not engraved with ivory grips, no. 1220. I would like to know what model they are, when made and some ideas on value if that is possible. I have included some pictures, and have more on Photo Bucket. Thanks for any help....Mark

    A widow in my church is wanting to sell her husband's guns to help pay funeral expenses. I took some of the guns to a local shop for appraisal. Among them was a Remington Derringer, nickel plated in 41 Rimfire. The dealer believes that the gun is a Type 4 and valued at a max of $1250. I can only find the number "94" on the little gun. Can anyone give me some help on this one? I really want to help the lady out if possible.

    There was no Model 41, but maybe you mean the caliber? If it's the .41 rimfire over-under double deringer, they were made from 1866 to 1935 and serial numbered in batches, so the sn won't date it. The barrel markings will help narrow down the period, if you list them exactly and if one line or two. Value depends on condition, and many have cracked hinge joints.

    On the top it has Remington Arms -U.M.C.CO.ILION,N.Y. with SN on the under side. I see no other markings, the hindge is cracked. Should I have it repaired?

    After looking more closely the S/N prefix is L979xx, the blueing on the barrel isn't that great but the gun is very good as are the grips. Everything on the gun is tight, the rifling is very good, no corrosion. The only negative is the cracked hindge

    That places it in the last group 1912-1935. Value in good condition is listed as $275, but reduced up to 50% if hinge is cracked. I don't think the crack can be successfully repaired, and any attempt would probably lower value more.
