S&W M 629-1, Pricing Question
Hi Folks:
I'm new, so please bear with me.
I recently acquired a S&W 629-1 in a trade deal and I'm trying to figure out what it is worth. I realize that there are other threads regarding 629's, but the variation in pricing has me a bit confused.
My serial number is AWA 0964 (taken from the frame under the crane). It has a 7 1/2" barrel.
This gun looks like it's hardly been shot and even has a factory adhesive circle sticker attached to the butt of the grips. The inside of the recoil shield doesn't show signs of the gun having been fired and the rear of the cylinder holes are also without marks. However, the front of the cylinder holes show some minor discoloration. So, I'm assuming that it has been shot, but very little.
I do not have the original box or paperwork.
How much is this worth and should I post it on the GB auction? Should I do a reserve or should I start it out as an estimated fair price.
If only it had a 5" or 6" barrel, I'd keep it. Unfortunately, the 7 1/2" just feels too long for my taste.

I recently sold a 629-1 for an even $800.00 with shipping included. I had to re-list it several times, but I did get the price I wanted.

Opps....Forgot the link to my recent sale. Also, I think this is as high a price as one could fetch for this model without box and in the condition mine was in (96 - 97%).

Does the barrel length of this particular model affect value? Does the 4 digit serial number have any importance?

Measure the barrel from the front of the cylnder and I bet you get
8 3/8" not 7 1/2".
S&W fires every other cylinder at the factory so you should see where it is.
A lot of bidders don't like reserve auctions, so start it close to what you want for it.0 -

You are absolutely right DCS Shooters. I measured it incorrectly, it is 8 3/8".

Do what DCS said, many folks myself included won't bid on reserve auctions.

That looks like it has only been test fired at the factory. I have on like it that came in the presentation wooden box, but only with a 4 inch barrel.
That is a real nice looking S&W you got there. I would not do a reserve auction, but start it near the minimum you would take for it. I actually start mine a ways below my minimum, and get a bidding war going. I also use the view counter, so that others can see that they are not the only ones watching it.
