Questions for tactical .22 owners

I have put thousands of rounds of the Federal 550 bulk pack ammo (~$16) from Walmart though my GSG-5's without problem.

If you do a search for GSG-5 and read my posts I have 4-5 topics of good reviews on them here.

Thanks, Nwcid. I checked out your other posts. It sounds like you have been getting along good with yours. Another question. While looking up other info on them, I keep seeing charging handle buffers for sale. Is that something that I should plan on getting?

I know the 522 is basically the same as the 5 but I can not speak for certain.

If the 522 is internally the same as the 5 I do suggest the upgrades done to mine.

I recently bought 3 GSG-5's. I have shot a bunch of Federal and Remington copper plated .22s with no problem at all, and they are very accurate.

Mine feeds the Federal Auto Match rounds just fine, and they don't have the copper plating that usually does better in semi-auto .22's. Says on the box "optimized for semi-automatic firearms".

This is all I've run through it at this point, but if it'll shoot this as well as it does, then it should do fine with any quality HV copper plated bullet.

On a side note, the word "tactical" as it relates to firearm accessories is a gimmick to get you to pay more.

Yeah, I guess I should have said "AR style .22 question" instead of "tactical". The most dangerous thing this one will ever shoot will be a prairie dog.

I think that would only be true if they charged more money for the "tactical" version of the product.

I look at this like "low fat" stuck on every food product. Its just the fashionable marketing buzzword that gun and equipment makers use today. Consumers like to hear it, so marketers stick it on there. It doesn't really mean ANYTHING at all.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say that any product labelled "tactical" probably isn't, it probably is true that most of the REAL "tactical" (ie actually designed for and relied on in field by military, law enforcement, etc) stuff can sell on its own reputation and probably doesn't need to be labelled as such.

Anyway to answer the question, I can confirm that the 36 grain high velocity copper plated Federal bulk pack ammo does cycle these guns just fine. Or at least it did in the one gun I've seen!

I've tried it in at least half a dozen, and I have also yet to find the semi-auto gun that will NOT cycle the 40 grain round nose Federal "automag" rounds. Ditto for CCI minimags.

I've also found that a little lube and a lot of break-in goes a long way to ensuring good functioning with these semi-auto blowback .22s.

I agree with the others, mine shoots anything I feed it flawlessly. Great little gun for the money, and it just became more fun as I purchased the new 110 round drum for it. Haven't tryed it yet, but if it is like the other GSG products, it will function perfectly.
