High Primers
I bought a box of Goex 12 guage BP shells and all 25 of the primers were not flush with the hulls. Are these safe to shoot or would the closing of the action maybe set them off? The whole lip of the primer is about a 32nd of an inch high. I can't think of any safe way to seat them, do you? Thanks.

What type of gun/action are you using them in? It is VERY unlikely the flat face of a shotgun breech would ignite the primer. 0 -

So, you are shooting CAS with these BP shotgun shells.
Were it me, I would not shoot these shells at all. Especially with the IAC Win '87 reproduction. The action on that gun was designed for the shorter shells of the day AND the Chinese built the reproduction exactly to the original specification. There is too much going on in the Win '87 action to risk a high primer pre-ignition. I just wouldn't shoot them in either the pump '97 or the '87 lever gun. There would be hell to pay if one of those things were to let go on the way to being chambered and with the weapon out of battery.
Is there a problem with you contacting your supplier and demanding that they issue a UPS call tag to pick them up and refund your money? For a single box of shells, they would probably ask you to scrap them and simply issue a refund. If you bought in quantity, they would probably want them back, but they should issue a call tag. If you bought them locally, they should just take them back and refund your payment.0 -

why people think the slow crushing of primer compound will make them go boom is beyond me. which is what could happen if you try to reseat them. odds are the primers will seat without incident. if they do go blewy the worst that can happen is the brass splits and you get scared. Without the chamber to support the shell it will simply go poof probably won't even open the crimp.
if you have ever drop a shell at the range and had it detonate your will know where i am coming from. All i have witnessed didn't hardily kick up the dust let alone toss the ejecta.

Unless you have a protuding firing pin you are more likely to have missfires than you are slamfires. The firing pin will probably finish seating the primer the first try and then fire the second try. I've seen that happen on rifle and revolver rounds with high primers. 0 -

I still have brass in my guts that prove seating high primers on a loaded round is a great way to end up in ER bleeding out of holes that were not there when you were born. Someday I'll post the pictures of the remains of the case.0 -

THIS IS AN EXPERTS COLUMN!...NOT AN EXPERIMENTORS!!!!!!!!! If you want to blow yourself up, fine, but don't advise others on how to do it. It's not your face your playing with.
OP, If it were me, I would contact the mfg., and get their wag on it. Apparently their quality control is lacking.
