Need a scope for a tikka t3 30/06. Found a good deal on a redfield 3x9x50 or a 4x12x40. These good scopes? Going on my hunting gun . Can pick one up for about 120-140 depending on model. Good? Thanks!

Are you talking about the new redfields made by luepold, or the old redfields from CO?
Or, the redfields made when the name was owned by Meade and their stuff was made God knows where, with quility running from good (Japan made) to god awful (china made)?
The new redfields made by luepold are excellant. I have a 4-12 on a 300 rum and it has held zero, and is very clear.
any scope made by the original redfield will be good, but has they are getting older, may need some service, which luepold will NOT do to old redfields.
The ones made by meade and whoever....good luck....they are hit or miss, I have a widefield 3-9 that was made in japan that is very good. I also have a 6-18 5 star made in phillpeans(spelling?) that is not nearly has good.
Hope that helps.0 -
Agreed.
I have the older and the newer.
Have a couple of the older production from years back. Historicly they were great about covering them. Had a problem from a heck of a lot of "normal" heavy use mountain hunting, with many extremes in everything ... they were great and did me good. Was pleasantly surprised and very content!
I've no complaints regarding those or the newest.0 -
From what little I have seen, they are decent scopes for the money, But I would be more inclined to put a better scope on that rifle like a Burris Signature series, or at least a Burris Full Field II.

well the scope that im looking at is a brand new revolution. i can get the 4-12x40mm for a 140. it will be on a one inch tube so if i recall the tube will only let in enough light for a 44 mm objective anyway. i think that is the route i will be going. thank you!!! 0 -

Go for it, you wont be disappointed! $140 is a good deal, everywhere I look the price runs around $219 or so.
I have a Burris Signature also, it too is a great scope, but for the money, and when viewed thru side by side with the new redfields, I still think the redfields are the better deal. CANT beat the price, and USA made makes it even better!0
