Who do you recommend for installing choke tubes?
I have a Winchester Model 23 SxS that I want to have choke tubes installed. I know Briley has an excellent reputation, but I also found Colonial online for a lot less (less than 1/2). I also see where some folks also have the forcing cones lengthened, etc at the same time. Is that recommended? I read where one guy sent his Winchester to Briley for choke tubes and in the end he spent over $1000 (various modifications included chokes installed). Any comments based one experience?

Lengthening the forcing cone yeilds two benefits. First it eases the transition from chamber to bore which more often than not improves patterns. It also reduces felt recoil to some degree.0 -

Many good companies that do that.
Try Carlson's Choke Tube. I have not had this done by them but have known of a few with good results. Think it is about $40 per barrel for the forcing cone area and they offer a package that includes tubes and wrench.
I did have Briley do some work for me years ago on a Winchester 101 and they did a really nice job. Didn't check the price at that time because I wanted the "best" not the cheapest. Not to say someone else could not do the same at half the price, you do pay for the name many times.

Colonial makes a Thinwall series.
An Ashland Va gunsmith installed them in a Remington 1100 LW 20 ga.
The barrel had to be cut back a little to have sufficient barrel thickness to thread even the Thinwall series.
If it's a vent rib barrel it may have to come back to the next rib support or a bit more work will be involved.
This may or may not be an issue with you but I'm very happy with my results.0
