Winchester 94 XTR 30-30
Does anyone know what the XTR stands for? I called Winchester and they didn't!!! All they could tell me was approx. year made(1986). I've compared 94's and mine looks like a Deluxe but is labeled XTR.

The Model 94 XTR was introduced in 1978 (if memory serves me correctly), and other than having a better grade of wood (checkered), it was essentially identical to a standard Model 94 of that era. 0 -
Any idea's on the XTR meaning? 0 -

I think it just means "Extra" due to the fancier wood and gloss finish.0 -
The XTR was indeed introduced in 1978, and it was discontinued in 1989. As stated in the catalogs, it was made with a deep blue highly polished finish on all of the ecternal steel parts, and a higher grade of American walunt, featuring cut checkering (like in the years past), and a satin finish to help shield the wood against weather and hard use.
There is no given explanation for what the "XTR" name stood for, and I agree with Spider's comment.0 -
Bert,
My recollection is that not all XTRs had checkering. Am I correct?
EDIT:
Thanks, Spider & Bert. I was aware of the 9422 XTR, with out checkering. I used to have a 9422 Magnum XTR, without checkering. I may have confused the 9422, with the 94. Thanks, again

Thanks,
The early 9422 XTR's were not checkered but I'm not sure about the Model 94's.

Thanks,
While I can not say with 100% assurity, I believe that the Model 94 XTRs did indeed have checkered stocks as a standard feature throughout the entire production run.0 -
my cousin has a 9422 XTR it has checkering and beautiful grained wood. It has engraving on the reicever, one side coon dog treeing a coon and other is a dog or coon or squirrel can't remember. 0
