Marlin 22 magnum

Picked this up for a friend over the weekend and its the first Marlin I've seen with checkering this fancy. Is this a new model?1303184588.jpg

    It might be beneficial for identification purposes, if you could give us all markings on the rifle and the serial number range.

    Since Remington now owns Marlin, I'd say its their design. Looks like it to me anyway !

    It's a 925m sn 96635853. I did not know that Remington owned Marlin but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

    I have a few 1100's and 870's with checkering thats real similar to that shown. Why would Remington owning Marlin ( NOT )have anything to do with it ?

    Ford owned Jaguar for several years and never made a similar looking car. I'm not saying it couldn't have something to do with it, I just don't find it likely. All this being said I've called several friends that are regulars and gun shows and pawn shops and showed them pictures and they haven't seen one with a stock like this either. I looked on the Marlin website and couldn't find anything and didn't have luck with a web search either.

    THANK YOU SIR ! I've dealt with guns for +40 yrs and I've learned a little down the road and know a little about corperate America too. I'll say I've never seen a Marlin with that checkering either, but I know how technology is moved from one company to another when one is purchased by another, Jag and Ford exchanged it too, we just did'nt see it. Its a 2004( I think )year model so very possible.

    It looks to be brand new unfired but I bought it from an individual so I don't know for sure. There was no dust along the stock/action so it is either new or has been kept in a safe. Thanks for the help though fellas was not trying to be rude at all, I just figured if it was a production change I would have seen another by now. I saw several at the Tulsa show a few weeks ago but none like this, also checked walmart and theirs had checkering but not like this.

    It also has a wide trigger like a Remington 700(eating my words now :P) instead a thin trigger, don't know if that helps at all?

    Special order maybe ? Your serial # starts with 96, so you subtract 96 from 100 which = 04, thats how Marlin keeps their date records on their lever guns, not positive about yours though.

    Thats what I was thinking. I read that Remington bought Marlin is 07 though, which adds a little more confusion haha.
