Question about Remington 870
What is the meaning of the barrel stamp, letter H, on my Wingmaster .410? The stamp is on the top right side of the barrel near the receiver.

Thanks for the comment, Gary! I just found it means that it was made in 1987, due to the other features it sports.0 -
Date codes are usually on the left side and there is usually 2 or 3 letters with the first being the month and the last one or two being the year

I had to make another trip to the safe. [:D] The only mark mine has on the left side is MOD for the modified choke. It has lots of markings on the right side near the receiver, which is just the opposite that your diagram shows. This is really an interesting shotgun as I see it. For example, from what I am reading about the 870 Wingmaster, Rem Chokes became standard in 1987, but mine does not have this feature, yet the barrel letter date of H is for 1987 manufacture. I'm beginning to think this might have been produced in a transition phase which would make it one of the last .410's made without Rem Chokes. It has the 25 inch vent rib barrel with one pin is marked for the 2 and 1/2" or 3" shells, plus it has the satin finished wood stock, with the enhanced receiver engraving. Thanks again, Gary. 0
