marlin 39 A barrel change

I have a marlin 39A gold trigger gun with 20" barrel. My question is on the barrel all the marlin info engraved on the barrel is ahead of the rear sight, instead of near the the action at the rear and under the rear sight,could this be a relacement barrel? The serial number begins with the letter P Putting around being made in the late 50's thanks jimmy

  Just checked my D and M prefix 39A's. Both have make/model/cal on top of the barrel forward of the rear sight. Neither is a "gold trigger" gun. Yours should be from about 1957. The M is a Microgroove, D is not.
