Is there another caseing that can be used in the 7.7 Arisaka 99 safely & is a perfect fit with minor modifications.

    Hi guys. It's been a long time since I've been on here, but I know where to go when I have a problem that has me stumped. I have a type 99 arisaka that has been "bubbaized". I have pretty well got it looking normal, by combining two abused rifles and making one that will look pretty good. This is my problem. The one rifle had the stock parts I needed, but the bolt had been turned down, and it had been sanded enough that the stock was "white". The barrel and action was last ditch, with no ears on the front sight . The barrel band and nosecap/bayonet lug came off easily. The barrel and action I am useing for the complete rifle is regular issue, [with an intact mum] and has ears on the front sight. As I start to reassemble, I found that the nose cap wouldn't go over the ears of the front sight. "NO problem" I think, I'll just tap out the sight and loosen the set screw under it and remove the sight base. Suprise, no screw. I need some advice as to how to approach this thing without ruining something. Any help of advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    30-06. Check for a book called cartridge case conversions. Forgot the author, but should be google-able.

    Yes......but with a few caveats.

    30-06 can be used but will be a little undersized in the head area in some guns, leading to short brass life. You have to trim the 63mm 06 case down to 58mm for the jap, then run through a full length sizer, final trim, and chamfer.

    You can also safely resize 8mm Mauser or 7mm Mauser cases to 7.7 Jap, though it will be a tad short by about 1/2mm in the neck.

    Graf's carries Privi 7.7 Jap brass for a very reasonable price. I think it's out of stock right now but you can have them e-mail you when it comes in.
