Some have the serial number in front of the loading port by the name.

Good deal. Have a similar one I bought a CT a box store mossberg about a year ago.

Some of the older ones have a single action bar. There is an old style bolt which doesn't use a spring to retain the firing pin. The trigger group will be slightly different. In that the trigger and trigger interupter is one piece.

I am pretty sure you can put new style parts in without issue. All mossberg 500 barrels are interchangeable.

The older ones you should be okay as the saftey is all steel. The newer ones tend to wear out more. I have seen the steel ones wear out but all you have to do is flip it around or change the detent plate.

Thanks for all of the info. I've concluded that there is no serial number since there isn't one forward of the loading port and the bill of sale had "NA" for a serial number.

Mossbergboogie, you nailed it. There is only one action bar.

Another poster removed his post but yes it would be prior to 1968.

61-68 single action bar was phased out in 70.

Making it one of the first ones produced.

But you know what; it's a mossberg and deserves to be shot. Even in it's age it's still more gun for the money.

Since it is a good solid gun, I plan on keeping it a long time. Maybe get a rifled slug and short smooth barrels over time.
