It's what called a "Victory" model S & W. This was S & W's standard Military & Police model that was made during the World War II years for the U.S. government. "GHD" are the initials of Lt. Col. Guy H. Drewry the chief U.S. government inspector at S & W factory.

DOM is somewhere between late '42 thru mid '45. It won't be either earlier, or later. You have a long-action mid-size frame Smith. Now, the parts..

.38 S&W Special barrels are sold out at Numrich www.e-gunparts.com but the lanyard ring and the lanyard ring retaining pin is available if you wish to retrograde.

    Don't get a barrel marked .38 S&W.

Perhaps others can chime in as to where you can get a replacement barrel. Remember, you may have to settle for either a blued barrel, or a barrel of longer length than the original 4in. barrel if a direct replacement can't be found. Best, Joe

    EDIT
Here's one (link below). Must ask the seller to eyeball the forcing cone, and the interior of the barrel prior to sale. It's in blue, however. Best again, Joe
