colt 357 trooper mk 3
I was on the range the other day and I noticed that when I was firing my revolver the hammer did not cock. I could put the trigger and the barrel would rotate, but the hammer did not cock. I could cock the hammer and fire the gun. This happened after firing 80 rounds.
When I got home and cleaned and oiled my revolver, when pulled the trigger, the double action worked normal, no problem. Is there a problem with gun or was it in need of a cleaning.[?]

After 30-40 years, oil inside the action can become gummy & cause malfunctions. I would try to spray an aerosol solvent such as CLP Breakfree or Crud Cutter inside the action. Use compressed air to force the excess out, then oil.

Don't ever just spray a firearm on moving parts with WD40 when mixed with some oils it turns to GLUE. and can cause all kinds of problems. 0 -

It sounds as though the DA sear was not working properly, that's a very unusual event and even more unusual is it working again on it's own. The DA sear is spring powered, I suppose it could have been stuck somehow - will the gun work in DA mode if the muzzle is held straight up?0 -
i had the same experience with a charter arms undercover, which has an internal design similar to the colt series iii guns. had bought it used that morning; returned it to the dealer , who took it back. 0
