s&w model 28-2 sight blade height.

I have a s&w n frame model 28-2 that I bought with a scope mounted. I have found a s&w rear sight,but the blade is to short. I can find the blades but they make several different heights. Any info would be appreceated. (sn 2857xx)

    The model 28 rear sights are adjustable for elevation and windage. You should be able to just raise the rear sight to get it shooting straight.

    Laredo lefty, I could be wroung but the rear sight for a N frame fits many diferent models and mabey with diferent front sights. The sight I have fits my N frame fine, but it might have came off another model. I run out of threads before sighted in. Thanks.

    Most M28's came with an 1/8" Baughman ramp front sight. Is that what is on your gun?

    S&W often uses different height front sights, depending upon the barrel length.

    nmyers, I am not sure how to measure the front sight,but it is a 6 inch barrel. The rear sight blade that I need range from .106 to .196 with several inbetween. I can buy the one I need if I can just find out witch one is right for my gun. Thanks.

    .146 blade hgt. is what my reference indicates. The depth and width of the notch is the same on all blades for that frame size. Don't forget to get a new nut and windage screw.

    If the lower rear blade doesn't do the trick, and,
    if you don't mind a patridge target blade that's been cut to Baughman configuration, and,
    if it's the old style with a roughly 1/16" projection into the base,
    let me know.

    I run into that problem with a 629, that I had S&W replace the 4 inch barrel with an 8 3/8, then switched it back to a 4 inch. I couldn't raise the rear sight enough, with the short blade. If you call Brownell's, and talk with their tech support, they would be glad to point you in the right direction.

    AZ has it right, a .146 is the right blade for your 28.
    As he said don't forget to get a new screw and nut package.
    When if you change the blade yourself, after you break the nut off, put the sight in a plastic bag to catch the pin and spring in the screw head [;)]
    Brownells has screw and nut packages with and without them.
