winchester model 12 riot gun

i just got a winchester model 12 riot gun. i was needing some help finding out the age of it.the serial #1941632. i would also like to get a ballpark figure on it's worth.the barrel is marked cyl.i appreciate any help. thank you.

    According to the serial number you give, the gun was made in 1961. However I doubt it's an original Trench or Riot gun as these were made only between 1941 and 1949 according to the Blue Book. I would guess someone cut off the barrel which negates any collector value.

    I am thinking that Commercial Riot Guns wer still being made then. Possibly could still have been military. Not sure when the military quit buying model 12's

    December 1962, and commercial Riot Guns were still being manufactured.

    Need to see pictures to accurately assess the value.

    it will take me a while to get pictures. the best i could measure the barrel it was 20" long.the barrel is marked CYL.i appreciate the help. i will work on pictures.thanks

    It could be the barrel was a substitute. Had a winchester 12 years ago with a 18" riot barrel. It had belonged to a cop.
    The barrel you have sounds like a improved cylinder...

    Pics would help for valuation.

    How do you get "improved cylinder" from a "CYL" marked barrel?

    The standard length Riot Gun barrel was 20-inchs and was marked "CYL", which is exactly how ky dave described his gun.

    Dave, unless something is really odd with your gun, it from all appearances is a standard Model 12 Riot Gun (albeit a very late production specimen).

    Don't believe everything you read in the BlueBook, especially about Winchester's. I would use it more for entertainment, than concrete evidance.

    Maybe take a look under the butt plate for a mark of the agency that once owned it. Mine had the same 20" barrel marked cyl. and was marked from a sherrif dept. in Louisianna.

    My grandpa had a 16 gauge 2-barrel M-12 set. #1 barrel/forearm was a 28" solid rib full choke, the second barrel/forearm was a 20" cyl choke plain barrel with a bead. Both had matching serials with the receiver, and came as a set. No engraving or fancy wood.

    For some reason he sold the short barrel to a friend of his many years ago, but I have the receiver and long barrel. I'll check the serial when I get a chance and see when it was made. (This has little collector value, it was used many seasons for turkey and deer in Central Texas, I don't think there's any original "blue" left, it's all patina-brown.)

    There were a few (at least one, anyway) 20" barrel guns out there that weren't in a standard 12 gauge riot/police configuration.
