    Assuming the internal parts, and all external stampings show the SerNo (small parts the last two digits), then the most important to have (and the hardest to find) is a gun with the period correct magazines. Each firearm was issued with two magazines.

    On the period correct aluminum mags, and on the early period correct wooden bottomed mags*, both mags will have (on the bottom) German gov't approval stamps, both will have the gun's full SerNo, and one of the mags will have a '+' symbol.

    Note: some late production bakelite bottomed 'FXO' mags are still somewhat legitimate. The German gov't took the aluminum bottoms for the war effort, and replaced them with the bakelite (plastic) bottomed ones.

    Therefore, I think a period holster would be easier to aquire. They are not mated to a particular pistol. Best, Joe

    wpage, You are taking on a great challenge finding a P08 with two matching mags. I collected the Lugers back in the 1960's. In those days "bring back" Lugers would show up with the holster and tool. Occasionally I would find one with an extra magazine. Out of the 40 or so I owned over the years I never had one with two matching magazines. If you find one with two, or even one matching numbered magazine I suggest you look at the numbers very carefully to make sure they are original and not stamped with the intention to deceive.
