Winchester 33 wcf
Hello, I have come across a rare find, and would like some advice. 33 WCF lever action, rear mounted peep sight on the stock. Gold plate engraved with a Military Captains name. Serial number 157945-1884-1885. Very good to excellen condition. Any idea of it's value?

My book shows the date of manufacture of your rifle as 1920. I believe it would be a Model 1886. Experts may have a more accurate date. If the army captain achieved some fame, performed some heroic act, etc. the rifle's value may be enhanced by the plate. Otherwise, I would say the value would be decreased.
Clear closeup photos are essential to enable someone to make a reasonable estimate of the value of the rifle0 -

The Model designation is under the tang sight base (attached to the steel upper tang behind the hammer). It might be marked "MODLE 86" indicating it was manufactured after April of 1919. The "1884" and "1885" are the patent dates associated with the Model 1886.
The insribed gold plate will not hurt the value as long as it was cleanly installed. If it is mentioned in the factory warehouse ledger, it will increase the value regardless of the "fame" of the person it was presented to.
