remington rand 1911A1 cousins

Newest edition, RR 1911A1 2218xxx and other RR 2221xxx , with 3263 of each other. This one has the grooved main spring housing and slide stop, H-S bbl. When I went to WVA in January for a family funeral, I had the opportunity to meet the fine Army Veteran who was a friend of my father. Two years ago he offered my father some of his prized posessions and I couldnt pass up what I was offered. He told me he had the twin to the RR he sold me but in better condition, they both got them same time 25+ years ago. The lettering on this one is sharp and crisp, These are both early 1945. I was hoping it had the Risdon mag, its scovill, with my lighting condition and free hand camera, some pics were not clear, but questions I have, how does finish look and what kind of value for insurance purpose? the 2221xxx has N.A. Co RIDGEFIELD NJ , front of frame below trigger guard,that I found out may be a Navy Arms import, but not found any info on this, anyone else know of this? http://i465.photobucket.com/albums/rr19/marcus396/049.jpg

    The finish & parts look like they could be all original on both guns. But, some folks are good restoration.

    Look at the serial numbers with a magnifying glass. If original finish, R-R's in that range will have bare metal showing within the depressions made by the stamp (applied after parkerizing). If you only see parkerizing, it's refinished.

    Also, look at the FJA inspector initials --- same thing.

    Navy Arms was a big importer of various surplus guns and modern replicas, during the 60's/70's time frame. Have this one gone over by a pro. It would be more likely to have been refinished then the other one. Also because of this it's collectors value would be considerably less, IMHO.

    Thanks for input, I know I talked to Neil when I got the first one,and rear main spring housing was checkered, hammer was different, slide stop was checkered, it also had hs bbl, but it had some grinding marks, but hitting the local gun shows around here finding a the parts i need takes time and no such luck. I will look at serial # and FJA for metal finish. I do not have alot tied up in these, so it was not like buyer beware, but for the price per each, and what I got extra, made it more than worth it. Grayton US holster 100 rds match ammo, with 50 of those IMI ( Israel Military Industries) match ammo, plus extra magazines. Newest one I got two extra Army ammo cans, One Reeves 30 Cal belt ammo can for browning machine gun ,emty of course, lol. Thanks for the Navy Arms info, learning a bit day by day. thanks so much

    EDIT newest edition checked out by a 1911 collector, after extensive tear down, his opinion, original finish, no rebuild, non original mag, excellent example of a Remington Rand.
