I am tring to get a value on a NB Davis & Sons Double Barrell Shotgun. I think the gun is antique but have no idea the year, I cant find any numbers on the gun. Any information will be helpful.

There was no American Gun Company. The gun is what is commonly referred to as a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker (and before 1940) for and was sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. Guns with the names AMERICA GUN CO and VICTOR EJECTOR were made by the Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT (1892 to 1931) for an were sold by the H & D Folsom Company, a large wholesale and retail sporting goods dealer located in New York City.Crescent made guns were inexpensive (read cheap) utility grade shotguns selling for $15 to $25 when new. Remember this was back when the standard wage was maybe $5.00 a day.Their values have not appreciated that much since. The value of any old shotgun will depend on its condition, the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood as well as the mechanical condition. Values can range from maybe a high of $125 for an example that appears to have come out of the factory yesterday afternoon to less than $10 for a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fit only for parts salvage or as a fire place poker. Most sell on the various auction sits for between $50 and $95. Caution. The gun was not designed for modern high pressure smokeless powder loaded 3 inch or magnum shells or steel shot. It was designed for either black powder or early low pressure smokeless loaded 2 9/16 or 2 3/4 inch shells loaded with lead shot. Post the serial number and we can tell you the year the gun was made. 0 -
Thanks for the info Ned.There is no number on it.The only other engraving on it is on the top of the barrel,and it says Genuine armory steel.I have already told the owner not to attempt to fire it.Again thanks for the info. 0 -
I have a Victor Ejector (check my name) in 12ga. The only thing I can add is that a small gauge/bore like a 410 or 28ga would be worth more than the 12/16/20s. Again, condition is everything.
There are a couple of other Victor singles, some are extractor types, etc. Basically all the same gun.0 -
Crescent made single barrel shotguns usually have the serial number stamped on the bottom tang (the piece that sticks back into the butt stock) just behind the trigger guard. I have a Victor Ejector in my collection and that's where I found the serial number. It is possible that the number is lightly stamped or has been buffed off. If you can find it, post the number and I can tell you what year the gun was made. 0 -
