Bulged Barrels, Part II
Sorry to resurrect the thread, but since it hadn't been mentioned the following may be helpful:
Even very slight bulges; those not immediately apparent by looking down the bore, especially in less than ideal light, can be felt by carefully running thumb and forefinger along the length of the barrel. Maybe not in short bull barrel .22's, but in .22 rifles and centerfires of long or short persuasion, it really doesn't take much practice to identify this defect.

I have a Winchester 67 that has a very noticeable (with the naked eye) bulge in the barrel, about halfway to the muzzle. This is how well it shoots at 25 yards, from a bench, with Federal American Eagle ammo: 
Of course, you don't have the option of replacing the barrel alone on that particular .22, as the barrel and action are one piece. I can live with the barrel being bulged, if it keeps shooting that well.[:)][^]0
