Recoil pad mystery
I'm refinishing an ADL stock that had the pressed checkering. It also has a Pachmayer White line pad in place. Pad is fine, and I want to leave it in place. However, while sanding on the butt stock, I noticed that the pad is slightly loos, and will move left, or right about 1/16", that makes it hard to finish the pad, and stock flush. Easy fix right?, Just stick your screw-driver in the incision in the rubber, find the screw head, and torque it down. What if you cannot find any hole, or incision in the rubber face in the pad? I have poked, prodded, squeased, and cussed---NO HOLE!!! What do I not know about this pad? THX HAWKSHAW

Use a ice pick or something that size, or razor blade and put a hole where the screws are. Then use Armor All or just water on a small screw driver to tighten or remove the screws. 0 -
Usually there is a small slit in the pad that needs to be found by pulling it apart where you think the screw heads are.. If you find the screw hole is to big, pop a toothpick into the hole and break it off flush to the stock, and install the pad.... 0 -
The holes are there, you just have to find them. The slits run with thepattern on the bottom. Use your thumbs to pull apart the rubber (gently) until you find the slits. Be sure to use a light grease on the screw driver to prevent tearing the rubber around the holes.

I've done hundreds of recoil pad jobs, and yes there is a hole somewhere. I swear, I cannot find this one. I thought that there might be a system that I didn't know about. THX HAWKSHAW0 -
Could the screw slits have been bonded?
Had a leather face Decelerator give me headaches once so I cleaned the slits with a q-tip and solvent then used a toothpick to put a bit of clear rtv in them. After scrubbing the excess off with burlap I needed my optivisor to see them.0 -
I had a similar situation. The pad had been glued on. Bummer 0 -
I have a hunting/gun nut Doctor friend with X ray. If your gun is over 62 it is covered by medicare. 0
