C.Sharps pepperbox

A friend of mine has a pair of pepperbox ( 4 barrel ) 22 derringers he is wanting to sell for $400 each. They are in great shape but I know they are replicas because they are marked 22 LR cal on right side of frame. They have C.Sharps Co. Philadelphia,Pa on both sides, brass or brass plated receivers,revolving firing pin, about 3 in barrels. Their serial numbers are 3378 and 3387.
Does anyone know what year they may have been manf or what they may be worth? They have patent 1859 on them but no other markings other than what I have mentioned. I would post pics but can't find a place to upload them. I have been selling on gunbroker for about 2 years with this same userid.

    Italian made Uberti's replicas were sold by Navy Arms in the 60's. This was prior to the Gun Control Law of 1968 which stopped their importation and sale. If the ones your inquiring about are the Italian made replicas they will have Italian proof marks, one of which is a coded date. I don't see them being worth $400 each if your buying them for resale. I would expect their retail value to be in the $200-$300 range, at the most. As they are novelties/conversation pieces, not really practical for even self defense or target shooting.


    EDIT #1, U.S. law requires imported manufactured goods including firearms to be marked with country of origin. If your replica Sharps derringers aren't marked, either the markings have been removed, or they were made in the U.S.

    $400 will usually get you an original authentic Sharps pepperbox.

    Thank you all for the info. I did look again at them and they only have
    Philadelphia,Pa on the right side under the C.Sharps Co and Patent 1859 on the left side under C.Sharps Co.What's weird is there are no proof marks anywhere on either gun.

    Slide the barrels forward. The proofmarks should be on the bottom.

    Tried that. The only thing on the bottom of the barrels when they are
    slid forward is the serial number.

    Miroku also made some of these. They are marked so on the bottom of the grip and they have no proof marks either. The rest of the markings are as you have stated. (Just looked at mine).

    Zink, These have no markings at all on the grip but the grips are numbered to the gun.I took the grips off and they look like the old S&W when they hand wrote the number on the grips. I would like to send you some pictures and see how they compare if you will send me your email address.
