Need info on Edgley Signal Pistol.

My great great grandfather found a signal pistol on a wreck here in the Bahamas back when wrecking was common place here and I would like to get some info on it before putting it in the museum. It is a R. F. Sedgley INC. Edgley Signal Pistol. Mark IV. The numbers on it are PTs 4-22-44 and 15121. Any thing anyone can tell me about this pistol would be wonderful.

    This thing fires a lot biger than a 10 gauge if you are taking about the size of a 10 gauge shoot gun shell. This will take at least a shell of 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 in diameter shell. My dad said it was along burning flare with a silk parachute on it.

    R.F. Sedgley was a well known U.S. gunsmith and firearms manufacturer. His business was located in Philadelphia from the 1890's until the 1940's, although he passed away in the 30's. Flare pistols were manufactured by his business starting in the 1920's. The Mark IV was chambered for 37mm flares and dates to the late 30's. This was just prior to W W II when many military contracts were issued for various flare pistols. 4-22-44 is either the patent number or patent date. 15121 is most likely the serial number.

    Thanks for your help. Do you know if the company is still in operation. I would like to find out when it was made and posable who was it sold to. I know its a long shoot but I am hopeful.
