Japanese Sword Identification.
Can anyone suggest someone to help with the ID of a supposedly 1937 Japanese Sword? And possibly some restoration work on the latch that holds the sword in its scabbard. The tang on the sword has markings, but I can't read Japanese. Thanks.

The makers marks are under the grip on the tang. These could either indicate a sword of and for WWII manufacture, or an older sword that was repurposed using newer fitments; the later is what you would hope for. There are several experts/high end hobbyists here, and I would hope they will chime in. First off, check the sticky topic about 8 posts from the top of the ATE forum home, and you will find instructions for hosting/posting pics. The experts will need several pics of the sword with and witout the scabberd, close up pics of the markings and a detailed description of the condition.
The other possibility that just occurred to me after rereading the op is that you might have a type 30 (or other...quite a few different ones used)bayonet. Manufacturers marks will appear near the ricasso/quillon ON THE BLADE near the base, not the "tang". Same request re: pics applies.0 -

Not to be rude ... but those thumbnail teasers don't cut it! There is no detail ... can't see nothing there. I believe each must be pasted or posted separately ... rather than all together. And I no not how to do it myself. Read through the above sticky posting if you would!

If you have not as yet ... please do not grind, file, sharpen, buff or shine it at all ... that can make something of great value and/or rarity into just another spoiled blade/sword.
