i was looking at olympic models and was wondering what the dif. was between a plinker and regular ar15.....and what is a good economical maker of ar15(low money high accuracy...if possible).

    I have an ar15 with both a .223 and .45acp upper. The 45acp upper is new and I reload 45acp. Therefore, I want to reuse the spent brass.
    Anyone have experience with ar15 brass catchers as sold by Cabelas, Midway, Natchez, etc?
    Just wonder if they work well, sort of or not at all. My questions come from wondering if the "mesh net" interferes with the ejection of the spent brass???

    I have a few of the UTG ones. I added some thin plastic sheets too keep hem open better and work well for me.


    Not sure where you shoot but another good option that I use a lot is a tarp. Lay it out where the brass lands and it is easy to clean up.

    i have a rigid one that only works with a2 uppers that is great, but noisy. my UTG soft one is more of a PITA.

    These are made by another company, sold by Brownells but no name listed. They make about 20 different models, I have one for a Mini 14 at it works perfectly. Stays in place, catches the brass and keeps it out of the action:

    I can't quite think of the name, I'm sure when someone else sees it they'll know. My experience with the mesh type is that they don't work all that well, a friend used one on his and spent time clearing the action.

    I hate chasing or losing brass, this brand works best for me. I can blast away, not have other shooters hate me for being pelted and I know it catches all.

    The ones sold by Brownells are made by E&L MFG.

    The wire framed mesh catchers are somewhat problematical. They tend to collapse as the brass pulls them down causing ejection problems. My son called telling me his AR was not functioning right and I wracked my brain trying to figure it out until he called back to tell me his catcher was preventing the ejected case from clearing the port.

    Thanks for the comments. TacticalInc makes a rigid one that looks interesting although costly. I was concerned about the mesh type interfering with ejection of the case.

    I use a mesh one. The plastic is a good idea, I'll try that. I usually leave the zipper at bottom open. When shooting from bench or prone, brass lays right there. Its more of a "brass pile bag".

    I do have to make sure the opening is in the right spot. Or it can interfere with action.
