    beltfed,
You have one of the crown jewels for H&R collectors. The Model 196 EUREKA SINGLE ACTION was made for a short period of time in 1939-40 and appears to have been a special order item. Serial numbered pieces above 300 are not known - common wisdom is that no more than 400 were made. It was and is one of the most accurate revolvers in existence - very fast lock time due to short hammer throw; cylinder exact length of .22 lr cartridge; very light trigger pull set at factory to 2 - 2.5lbs; special simultaneous broach cut rifling (same as on the H&R USRA), special target sights; all internal action parts specially hardened and hand honed - each gun was made individuall by a master smith.
I purchased one back around 2002 in Low Excellent condition - about 90 - 92% finish, grip showing no wear, mechanically excellent, barrel and chamber bores mirror bright, rifling excellent - and paid $800 - it was a private sale. So few of these show up for sale that it is near impossible to determine a current RETAIL value. A wild ESTIMATE would be close to $2K for an example As NEW with box; down to $1K for a GOOD condition piece.
