Thanks. I've never had problems in my 41 either but I've read that the HS can suffer a cracked frame if fed too much high speed stuff. I'll probably change over to a Wolff spring too as I've heard that that helps. I've also got a couple of other older autoloader .22 pistols so I thought I might just try to cut down on their stress too.

Anyway, thanks for the tip. Appreciate it.

I shoot federal Automatch in my 22 pistol. Feeds and works well. I have also found that the standard Blazer shoots pretty well.

Aguila standard velocity, 40 grain has worked great for me in nearly any rimfire I've sent it through - Winchester 75, Browning semi rifle, CZ target rifle, Marlin 39 and the HS semi series pistol and Smith 17. Even an old JC Higgins Model 30. Kind of surprised it does so well in so many guns.

If you want to help cut down on wear & tear on most semi auto pistols standard velocity ammo is the way to go Side benefit is better accuracy......Lest costly CCI in the 50 shoot Cardboard box is a good choice unless you are a master class shooter then something like Eley 10 X . but you will have sticker shock The best place to get CCI is Champions Choice www.champchoice.com ask for Homer.

Buy a box or 2 of each brand & see which your pistol shoots best & most accurately. Different pistols, even if the same brand, tend to prefer one brand more than another. Once you find it, buy more of the same lot #.

Any of the NON-high velocity "target" ammo with 40 grain all lead round nose bullets should work well in your High Standard.

Using those criteria, I've had good luck with Federal, CCI, PMC, and Aguila. Winchester would probably work fine too, though for whatever reason, I've never shot any through my gun. Remington cycles the gun 100%. . .when it goes "bang", but I've had an unacceptable number of duds, and stopped buying it after a while.

I think this group was shot with cheap PMC "Scoremaster" ammo, from my 1964 high Standard 104 Supermatic:

Thank you to everyone for your advice and I will be trying some of your suggestions soon.

    dfletcher,
It's good to see another shooter of the Higgins #30. Even with the little original 3/4" scope mine is still a remarkably accurate rifle. I'll have to try something other than bulk .22 ammo.

    perry shooter,
Thanks for the link to ChampChoice. I just finished placing a small order and they are now in my favorites list.
