Weaver #2 side mount is shown in the chart I have.
You can also find one on weaver's website, that's where I printed mine from.

I have five of the old Savage model 40 and 45 rifles. Three have scopes. Two are equiped with Weaver top mount bases (#11) and one has the older "U" mounts (also #11). Stroebel's book shows a picture of a 1937 Savage brochure showing a scope mount with the 2 holes that you describe. In fine print it says "Weaver design". So you are on the right track and maybe you might find a Weaver that would be the right one. I would have guessed an "N" mount would be the one but the N didn't appear until around 1953. So you are looking for either an "M" or an "S" Weaver side mount or the Savage mount. I believe all of these mounts take a 3/4" scope. I have never seen an M or an S Weaver mount. I hope this info helps. Good luck.
