Where does the SCCY guns come from, and what is your opinion of their quality?

The SCCY guns are made by the SCCY company out of Florida. At one point the company was called "SKKY"; the name was changed, though I don't personally know why. [EDIT: Whoops. . .it was "SKYY". . .thanks for the correction and explanation below. On SKYY vodka, I've had some and in my opinion the blue bottle is really nice [;)]. A few years ago, the New York Times did a blinded review of many different kinds of vodka including a number of the expensive "super-premium" brands. Their panel concluded that ordinary cheap Smirnoff was actually the best vodka. Remember not to mix alcohol and firearms!].

The SCCY company was started by two former employees of Kel Tec.

The SCCY pistol is effectively a direct clone of the Kel-Tec P11 with a few minor changes: external thumb safety, some stainless steel, and a grip with fingergrooves. SKYY/SCCY mag holds only 9 rounds.

Kel-Tec P11 holds 10 rounds and will take Smith and Wesson 59 series mags (sticking out the bottom) for more flexibility and potentially more capacity.

SKKY guns had some teething problems when they first came out. SCCY may have cleaned them up. . .I don't know. Stuff like this gives one pause: http://www.sccyforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9396

Given the choice, personally, I'd stick to the Kel-Tec. Its been around longer, its actually similar in cost, if not less expensive, has higher capacity, and in a gun like this, I see an external safety as a drawback, not an advantage.

    bean, et al,

I believe that SCCY used to be "SKYY". Well, now that was not good for SKYY Vodka, so they sued the SKYY gun company, over its use of "their" name. ...and, so, now we have SCCY.[;)]

As a side note, SKYY Vodka is bottled from the same tanks & tankers that supply many other name-brands of "beter" vodka. How's that for copying someone else's idea, and puting your name on it?[:I]

I purchased one in Feb 2011. Took it home and it jammed on the 2nd shot. It jammed 8 more times in the next 24 shots. On the 25th shot the trigger return spring broke and you had to manually move the trigger up after each shot. I sent it back and the said they totally replaced everything but the frame. I never shot it again. Sold it with full disclosure to someone willing to take a chance it would not malfunction if his life depended on it. I will not depend on one to save my life.
